Our Beneficiaries

George Mark Children's House (GMCH) is the first free-standing pediatric palliative care house in the United States. Founded in 2004, GMCH offers respite care, transitional care, end-of-life care and bereavement support in a life-affirming setting.

Child life specialists at GMCH are constantly granting wishes as they focus on a child’s quality of life: How can the child and family have the best day possible? The child life team at GMCH addresses the psychological concerns that accompany healthcare experiences by promoting optimal child development and minimizing adverse effects. GMCH offers therapeutic programming like music therapy and pet therapy, special experiences and celebrations (family favorites include Pumpkin Day and trips to the Ocean), family events like Picnic Day in the Spring, and psychological support for patients and their families.

GMCH meets a critical need by bridging the gap between home and hospital, providing the comforts of home with the medical care of a top-tier hospital. Their work is provided to all patients and families regardless of their ability to pay.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland (UBCHO) has been delivering exceptional pediatric medical care for over 100 years. In addition to providing comprehensive, family-centered clinical care. UBCHO is engaged in community support, child advocacy and innovative research to discover the medical breakthroughs of tomorrow.

The Child Life team at UBCHO strive to create positive healthcare experiences for children, youth and families. Their team of certified child life specialists, music therapists, art therapists, educators and parent liaisons are trained in child and family development, and understand the specific needs of children, teens and families in the hospital. Through support, play and education, they collaborate with parents and other caregivers to ensure a friendly and comfortable medical environment for each child.

Support from CHG promotes UBCHO’s commitment to over 280,000 patients annually and to provide the safest and highest quality care to all patients. Their work for our community and pediatric healthcare at large is vital and life changing for so many.
